2015: Year In Review.

Well, that took longer than I thought it would. 2015 was a busy year, as it turns out.

At the end of each year, I make a habit of looking back and reflecting on the year that was. I think it’s a good exercise to do at this time of year, and as I wrote last year, I again found that it was a refreshing experience this time around. When I look at this body of work, I realize one thing. I shot A LOT. It wasn’t until I went back to the start of my January archives that I even remembered I shot some of these things.

But busy is a good thing. No, a great thing! Above is a gallery of my favorite pictures and favorite memories from 2015. Click on any individual photo to enlarge it. I’ve also included some of my favorite video pieces from the year.

I completed my sixth year as a photographer working in Major League Baseball, and my fourth as a Boston Red Sox team photographer. That role was made into a full-time Staff Photographer position in March, which I’m really proud of and thankful for. This season was as much about Fenway Park as it was the team on the field. Although the team finished last in the division for the second straight year, a collection of first class events, including concerts, football, Irish hurling, and milestones made for a really exciting year at Boston’s old stadium. I love the grind there, and I’m ready to recharge on some new creative initiatives with the team in 2016.

As a result of the full-time upgrade at Fenway, there were some sacrifices I had to make on the freelance side of my career. Taking two or three weeks off is tougher for me to do now, so I wasn’t able to make it back to shoot the Championships Wimbledon this year. I still got to shoot the BNP Paribas Open, though, where I witnessed some real history. I also shot and edited at some different events and games for Getty Images, which I’ve enjoyed immensely, and continued work for new and existing clients at events and weddings.

I also continued to grow on the video front, and began to work those skills into the corporate realm. Video is just as important as still photography, if not more, so I want to be sure to continue that work next year.

All along the way, I learned a lot, both about myself and about this crazy, fast-paced world I operate in. Looking back, there were some decisions I would rethink, but I’ve learned from those and think I’ve grown as a person. Most importantly, as I reflect on all of this, I’m reminded of how thankful I am to be surrounded by incredible people. Colleagues, mentors, friends, and family members. You’re only as good as the people you surround yourself with, and I’m really lucky to have great people in my life. Congratulations to all those people on everything they did in 2015.

Thank you so much for following along all year! Happy New Year!

2016 is going to be big.

I was asked to shoot an advanced private screening of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ for a corporate client with fellow Boston Photographer, Adam Glanzman.

This was mainly a grip and grin type of event, so there weren’t many opportunities to make art. I did get a chance to snap a few features, though, and I thought this one was kind of funny.

Thank you Adam for having me out to shoot!

PS for the Star Wars fans out there, go see the movie. It’s great.

Photos: Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum Fall 2015 Activity.

There’s been lots of excitement recently at the beautiful Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, and I’ve been lucky to document some of it.

With longtime Museum Director Anne Hawley stepping down have come some great events and farewells. Here are some photos from a few nights I’ve had at the Museum of late.

Thanks as always to the Gardner for having me! It’s a pleasure.

Here is a gallery of photos from a private event at Fenway Park I shot for Merrimack Pharmaceuticals several months ago.

I’ve come to enjoy shooting corporate types of events like these. It’s a completely different pace from shooting sports, but it’s a good, marketable skill to have as a photographer. In 2016, I’d like to figure out how to work more shoots like these into the portfolios and posts that I share publicly.

Here is a selection of images from a B’Nai B’Rith event at Fenway Park honoring Boston Red Sox President & CEO Emeritus, Larry Lucchino.

Photos: McDevitt Family Portraits.

With the end of 2015 approaching, I want to be sure I’m caught up on the blog with work from the end of the year.

Here are a few quick family portraits of the McDevitt’s!

Photos: Boston Red Sox Holiday Caravan.

Last week, the Red Sox hit the road for their annual Holiday Caravan, which brings players to local hospitals and community centers to visit patients and kids.

Pitchers Noe Ramirez and Robbie Ross Jr. and infielder Deven Marrero participated this year. They were also accompanied for a few of the stops by newly acquired all-star reliever, Craig Kimbrel.

Over the two days, we visited Boston Children’s Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Shriner’s Hospital for Children, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston Medical Center, and the Base, a baseball training center for urban youth.

This is a long few days for everyone involved, but it’s a nice thing that the team does, especially at this time of year. I always think it really makes a difference, no matter how cliché that sounds.

Here are some photos.

Photos: Boston Red Sox Sign David Price.

Here are a few images from last week’s Red Sox signing of pitcher, David Price. A busy day here at the park, but it’s exciting to have David on our side!

Photos: High School Football at Fenway Park.

Here are some images from a night session of high school football games at Fenway Park. High school football during Thanksgiving week is a big tradition in the Northeast, so I’m sure it was a thrill for these kids to be playing at a venue like Fenway.

A little different than the Notre Dame/Boston College game the week before!

Photos: AIG Hurling Classic & Irish Festival.

Here are some images from the AIG Irish Hurling and Irish Festival at Fenway Park yesterday. I’ve never shot the sport of hurling, so wasn’t sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised.

The game is fast paced and high energy. I’m still not sure if I know the rules, but felt good about some of these photos.

That caps off a long, busy weekend of shooting at Fenway.
