Here are some images from a night session of high school football games at Fenway Park. High school football during Thanksgiving week is a big tradition in the Northeast, so I’m sure it was a thrill for these kids to be playing at a venue like Fenway.
A little different than the Notre Dame/Boston College game the week before!

What a night! Here is a gallery of images from the Shamrock Series Football at Fenway Game between Boston College and Notre Dame. It was the first time football has been played at Fenway Park since 1968.
I was really excited to cover this. I knew it was going to be colorful and high energy, and the night lived up to expectations. The atmosphere was fantastic, and I genuinely had a wonderful time shooting. In my experiences as a photographer, there have been instances while working where everything else happening in life dissappears. You forget about everything that’s going on, and it’s just you and the camera and what’s in front of you. When that happens, it’s bliss, and it happened for me last night. It’s those times that keep you motivated and fresh as a storyteller.
The game was the end product of a lot of hard work by a lot of good people at the Red Sox. Congratulations to everyone involved on a killer event!
This was a perfect way to start my 26th birthday weekend. I’m grateful for all the well-wishes on my birthday today! Thank you to all. It was an awesome year. Here’s to another one.
Photos: Sunday Night Football – New England Patriots Vs. Denver Broncos.

I was lucky enough to be asked to come out and assist for Sports Illustrated during last Sunday night’s classic match up between the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. The storyline was clear: two of the best quarterbacks of all time battling it out in front of a national Sunday Night Football audience on the windiest, coldest night of the year in New England.
The game lived up to all the hype, although it didn’t seem that way at the end of the first half. Peyton Manning and the Broncos came out on fire, shutting out Tom Brady and the Patriots 24-0 through the first half.
I don’t follow football to the extent that I do some other sports, but I know enough to never count out Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, and the Patriots’ ability to make adjustments mid-game. I knew they’d make things interesting in the second half, and sure enough, the Patriots came roaring back, forced the game to overtime, and won on a 31-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski.
What a game, not just for what happened on the field, but for the conditions we all were working in. This was the coldest weather I’ve ever experienced, and despite my endless layers of clothing, it was impossible to keep completely warm. With the wind chill, temperatures hovered around five degrees all game.
It wasn’t comfortable, and it wasn’t easy to work in, but as a photographer out there, you can’t be distracted by the conditions. That’s just part of the job sometimes.
USA! USA!

Here’s a more general showing of the atmosphere at the bar.
Now that the USA have advanced, I’m sure we’ll be back to Sláinte to cover another game.
Not a bad day at “work.”
Baltimore World Cup Fervor.

Sláinte Irish Pub and Restaurant in Fells Point is Baltimore’s premier place to watch soccer.
We were sent to the multi-level bar during the World Cup group stage game between the United States and Algeria.
The place was off the wall. Nearly everyone I talked to told me they were supposed to be at work. On this Wednesday morning, however, there were easily 300 people there, most of whom arrived at 6 or 7 A.M. to stake out a good spot.
I was able to walk around and get some footage from different spots in the bar, but once the game began, I couldn’t move from my spot behind the bar for 90 plus minutes.
It was excruciating watching the U.S. blow opportunity after opportunity. It was even more painful filming everyone’s expressions as shots went anywhere but in the net.
As shown in the video, everyone exploded with excitement as Landon Donovan scored the winning goal in stoppage time. Our story, then, was about the long, emotional build up capped off by a last minute, dramatic finish.
Ed Dickson.

Here’s a locker room interview with Baltimore Ravens’ rookie tight end, Ed Dickson.
It’s very brief, but I always try to find something to build on, no matter how small the assignment.
In this case, I realized that I didn’t stake out my camera spot quickly enough. I was behind a circle of reporters when I shot this. That’s why you see some other faces occasionally popping into view.
It’s important to claim a good spot within the huddle of reporters and camera people.
Lesson learned!
Rookie Day.

The new players weren’t the only rookies present at the Baltimore Ravens mini-camp today.
I was also a rookie, as this was my first time covering the purple and black. I was sent to shoot a press conference with Head Coach John Harbaugh after morning practice at the Ravens’ training facility in Owings Mills, Maryland, commonly known as “The Castle.”
From what I’ve been told, there wasn’t much going on today because it was “just the rookies.” For me, however, everything was new.
After working for the Baltimore Orioles last year, I’ve gotten a unique perspective on how professional sports organizations operate. It was interesting to note the differences in how the two clubs are organized. At the same time, I picked up on certain aspects that were nearly identical.
Mainly, it was unbelievable to see how much bigger these rookies were then most of the professional baseball players I’ve been around. Football players may look big on television, but after shooting some interviews in the locker room today, I was taken aback by how much bigger they are in real life.
That’s the nature of the game, I suppose.
These were the highlights from Harbaugh’s press conference. Check back tomorrow for a locker room interview with rookie tight end, Ed Dickson.
Many thanks to Leeann Adams for storming the castle with me, showing me around, and sharing her video expertise.
