I have been lucky to follow former Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz through his journey toward the election into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Above is a selection of imagery shot and produced for the Boston Red Sox in preparation for his induction weekend in Cooperstown at the end of July.
I’m proud to share the above video spot, which I produced and storyboarded and brought to life with an incredible collaborative effort among our productions and creative services teams. With the help of the Hall of Fame, we shut down the plaque gallery to photograph David in the empty hall, providing the visual of David reflecting upon his upcoming election. We kept this in the can for months until induction weekend, at which point it served as a great campaign to tee of the event.
It was fun to travel back to Cooperstown to cover my second Hall of Fame induction (Pedro Martinez in 2015 was the first), and all the fanfare that goes along with it. Several days later, Ortiz traveled to Boston for a special recognition pre-game ceremony, and took a ride in the team’s Home Run Cart.
Above is a selection of imagery captured for tournament sponsorship to document the partner and fan experience on course at the US Open Championship at the Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts. I was there for one day of the tournament with the team at Bolt Creative Group and working with great partners and clients.
Sharing some recent portrait work with four-time Olympian, 1998 hockey gold medalist, and Sports Innovation Lab co-founder, Angela Ruggiero. These were shot for Sports Illustrated for a cover story exploring the battlegrounds and issues that will define the future of the fight for equality in sports 50 years after the passing of the Title IX law.
A big thanks to the editorial team at SI for considering me for this assignment, and to Angela for being a fantastic subject.
Here is a set of NASCAR images from a long but exciting weekend at the Coca-Cola 600 race at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina. I’ve shot several smaller regional races in New England, but I was excited to shoot a premier racing event on a bigger stage. I was brought in to shoot race action, features, and general atmosphere for social media use on the Speedway’s official accounts. A huge thank you to the team for bringing me on board and the hard work put in throughout the weekend!
Above is a selection of images shot for the New England Free Jacks Major League Rugby team in partnership with Getty Images. I shot over two games at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium right down the street from me in Quincy, MA.
Rugby is a growing sport across the country and certainly no exception here in Boston. There’s a great community feel and grassroots fanfare surrounding the Free Jacks, which I’d love to explore on a deeper level moving forward.
Here is a series of three portraits shot of several major league baseball players including Juan Soto of the Washington Nationals at this winter’s Pedro Martinez Foundation Gala Supporting At Risk Youth in Boston, Massachusetts. This was a simple two-light setup on a camel colored backdrop.
Former Boston Red Sox designated hitter and first baseman David Ortiz was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility, it was announced tonight on MLB Network. He received 307 votes (77.9%) cast by eligible members of the Baseball Writers Association of America.
Ortiz is one of 37 former Red Sox to be elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame for their playing careers. He joins Pedro Martinez, Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski, and Wade Boggs as the only individuals to earn election in their first year of eligibility after spending more seasons with the Red Sox than with any other team. Overall, Ortiz is the 58th player to earn election in their first year on the BBWAA ballot. He is the fourth player born in the Dominican Republic to be elected, joining Martinez, Vladimir Guerrero, and Juan Marichal.
I recently travelled to the DR to document this moment, as Ortiz received the news surrounded by family and friends.
Here is a gallery of images shot at last weekend’s game between the New England Patriots and the Jacksonville Jaguars. A big thanks to Jags team photographer Kam Nedd for bringing me in to help shoot for the visiting team.
Here is a gallery of images shot for Wake Forest University athletics during their game against Boston College this weekend. The Demon Deacons showed up with a commanding win which made for some good late afternoon frames.
A big thanks to Wake Forest for having me out.
Last week, I covered an eight-bout card at SNHU Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire topped by a middleweight bout between Demetrius Andrade and Jason Quigley for Andrade’s WBO title. The main event lasted just two rounds, as Andrade knocked Quigley down three times, with the referee stopping the fight after the third one.
Above are images from that Andrade-Quigley fight as well as a selection of action and features from the other fights on the card. It was fun to shoot boxing after not having covered the sport for a few years. A big thanks to Getty Images for having me on.
