Here are photos from championship Sunday at this year’s BNP Paribas Open. This was the 5th time I’ve shot this tournament. That’s hard to believe. Shooting around the grounds in the 90 plus degree heat has become second nature to me by this point, but with familiarity comes the challenge of making what you shoot look unique and different from years past. It’s a good challenge every year, and this go around was just that – a good challenge.
It’s not just a challenge creatively, either. 15-plus hour days in the desert sun with no days off is really difficult to do. By the end of this tournament, I was completely spent, both physically and mentally. Luckily, I think pacing is something you learn as you get older. I feel like I’ve gotten a little better at this over the years, at least.
While the tennis is always amazing in Indian Wells, what keeps me coming back year after year are the people I work with. I’m so lucky to be included each year as part of an incredibly talented, hard working, fun group of photographers, editors, writers, videographers, and social media gurus. Having a team of people like this around you pushes you to be better, and it’s amazing to see ideas and concepts come to life through the collaboration among us. Thanks again to everyone on the team – you know who you are!
After a month in Florida for Spring Training, followed immediately by 10 days at this tournament, I’m back in Boston and catching up on rest. But not too much rest. Opening Day is in 11 days!
